An Arithmetic Progression is a number sequence in which the difference between any two consecutive terms is always the same.

Examples:

  • 2, 4, 6, 8, 10... (common difference = 2)

  • 7, 3, -1, -5... (common difference = -4)

  • First term (a): The first number in the sequence.

  • Common difference (d): The fixed difference between two consecutive terms.

  • nth term (an): The term at position n in the sequence.

  1. General Term (nth term)

    an=a+(n−1)da_n = a + (n - 1)d

  2. Sum of First n Terms (Sn)

    Sn=n2[2a+(n−1)d]S_n = \frac{n}{2} [2a + (n - 1)d]

    Or,

    Sn=n2(a+l)S_n = \frac{n}{2} (a + l)

    Where l is the last term.
